AT THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL MEETING OF THE EUROPEAN UNION OF WOMEN HELD IN DIJON, FRANCE 25TH - 28TH JUNE 2009, WALBUIRGA HABSBURG DOUGLAS WAS UNANIMOUSLY VOTED AS OUR INTERNATIONAL CHAIRMAN. A YOUNG VIBRANT GERMAN LIVING IN SWEDEN SPEAKING 6 LANGUAGES.
THERE ARE 18 MEMBER COUNTRIES OF THE EUROPEAN UNION OF WOMEN AND SO THE MEETING WAS BUZZING WITH INTERNATIONAL DISCUSSION.
OUR WORK COVERED "EUROPE: VISION FOR THE FUTURE. SELF SUFFICIENCY IN RESOURCES: ENERGY, WATER, CLIMATE CHANGE, WASTE, HEALTH."
THE FOLLOWING TWO RESOLUTIONS WERE UNANIMOUSLY AGREED:
INTRODUCTION: WATER. The EU's water policy focuses on: chemicals in water, drinking water, floods, groundwater, marine water strategy, bathing water quality, and urban waste water.
Our water supply is vulnerable to variations in rainfall and abstraction. Climate Change leads to extremes of climate and is predicted to reduce our summer rainfall from between 15% and 60% during the 2080's.
In the year 2050 clean water may not be available for two thirds of the world's population.
RESOLUTION: WATER
We have to educate all generations of the importance of saving, and understanding the value of water. EVERYONE HAS TO BE RESPONSIBLE.
We ask governments to take responsibility for raising awareness in all ways of saving water.
INTRODUCTION: ENERGY. Filtering spam is beneficial but fighting spam at the source is even better.
RESOLUTION: ENERGY. SPAM emails use the equivalent in energy of 2.1 million homes, according to the McAffee report. 80% plus of all emails are spam using up to 33 billion kilowatt hours of electricity a year equal to the greenhouse gas emissions of 3.1 million cars.
We urgently ask governments to work on eliminating spam.
